CASH Oregon and Tax-Aide Celebrate
Successful 2006 Tax Season!
During
the 2007 filing season, CASH Oregon in partnership with AARP Tax-Aide
prepared 11,721 electronically filed tax returns in the three county
Portland metropolitan area, an increase of 23% over the prior year. Total
federal and state tax refunds were $13.5million, with $5.8 million from
Earned Income and Child tax credits. The average adjusted gross income
of each return was less than $22,000.
CASH Oregon was formed in 2005 to assist low income individuals and
families through the promotion of the Earned Income and other Tax
Credits, free
tax return preparation, and financial advocacy. AARP Tax-Aide has
been operating free tax preparation sites in Oregon with an emphasis
on
seniors for over 20 years. In 2007 both organizations committed
to a tax preparation
partnership going forward.
Contributing to the success was expanded hours of operation at the
Lloyd Center site, new sites in downtown Hillsboro, Rockwood and
Milwaukie, and increased publicity and outreach.
CASH Oregon worked with several government agencies, corporate
and nonprofit partners to promote and provide its services. It
is these
relationships
and, above all, the commitment and dedication of scores of CASH
Oregon and Tax-Aide volunteers which made possible a very successful
year.
The volunteer recognition and end of the filing season celebration
was hosted by CASH Oregon at the Doubletree Hotel.
