In a rare stop in Portland in late October, the IRS Commissioner
of the Wage & Investment operating division met with CASH Oregon’s
executive director, Jim Harper and Board Co-Chair Bruce Murray and Kathy
Howell IRS CASH Oregon board member and tax consultant to CASH Oregon.
The Wage and Investment Division serves approximately 122 million customers
accounting for 94 million tax returns. That is the largest of the four
operating divisions.
One of the goals of the IRS is to reduce taxpayer burden. With the help
of volunteer organizations such as CASH Oregon, IRS is able to accomplish
those goals. Educating taxpayers about beneficial tax credits, providing
free tax return preparation and financial independence which leads to tax
compliance for those who need it the most.
Besides a big “THANK YOU” to both Jim and Bruce for all their
hard work, Rick was seeking suggestions on what barriers IRS could help
eliminate that would make their jobs easier.
